Everyday Marvels: A Prairie Encounter
About | Creative Team | Gallery
Everyday Marvels: A Prairie Encounter was commissioned by rRemai Modern, a new museum of modern and contemporary art, opened on October 21, 2017 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Inspired by poet Lorna Crozier’s collection of short lyrical essays The Book of Marvels: A Compendium of Everyday Things, the work invites audiences to re-discover the art of the everyday through poetic encounters with taken for granted objects.
Traveling through rRemai’s functional and in-between spaces, unusual encounters with a mop, a doorknob, air and an umbrella all become powerful metaphors that transcend utility, revealing the embedded meanings we co-create in the liminal space between self and world.
This work was developed while in residence at the museum from August 9-20, 2021, together with an ensemble of local and Saskatchewan-born artists, culminating in four public performances in various locations throughout the museum.
These new live works will be transformed into dance films that will be released in the fall of 2021.
